Deload week

It's my deload week! For me, that means a whole week off from the gym completely . (Because I have too big of an ego to go to the gym and lift light weights!) We're leaving for NY this week, so I didn't want my deload to fall during that week. I'll be eating a few more treats than normal, so I'd like to put the extra calories towards my lifts! I used to hate taking a week off, but honestly, now I don't mind it. I actually enjoy the extra time I have in the mornings. Plus, this week I have a ton of stuff to get done anyway in preparation for our trip. I know that for many people in the fitness world, it's really hard to take time off from the gym. I think some people fear that they'll get fat if they don't workout or that they'll lose all their muscle and strength gains....but that is so not the case! A week off every few months is super important, especially if you constantly train very intensely with heavy weights. A week off will give yo

30 Principles For Life

I love these and just had to share!   30 Principles for Life   By Charles Stanley http://www.intouch.org/you/30-life-principles 1. Our intimacy with God – His highest priority for our lives – determines the impact of our lives.   2. Obey God and leave all the consequences to Him. 3. God’s Word is an immovable anchor in times of storm. 4. The awareness of God’s presence energizes us for our work. 5. God does not require us to understand His will, just obey it, even if it seems unreasonable. 6. You reap what you sow, more than you sow, and later than you sow. 7. The dark moments of our life will last only so long as is necessary for God to accomplish His purpose in us. 8. Fight all your battles on your knees and you win every time. 9. Trusting God means looking beyond what we can see to what God sees. 10. If necessary, God will move heaven and earth to show us His will. 11. God assumes full responsibility for our needs when we obey Him. 12. Peace with God is

Friday Faves!

HAPPY FRIDAY!   Guess who is ONE year old today? I can't believe how the time has flown. I can't wait to see her tomorrow for her birthday party! :) I'm really enjoying this book, "Winter Garden" by Kristin Hannah. I just finished "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes, and next up is "Sharp Objects" by Gillian Flynn. Have you read any good books lately?  I got a PR on hip thrusts this week- I'm now part of the 225lb club! 'Bout darn time! ;) I think doing hip thrusts twice a week has helped. My other low body lifts suck right now, so I'm happy that I'm getting stronger at least on one thing.  This booty has gots to grooooow!   We've had beautiful weather this week! 70 degrees in the middle of July!??  Can't complain about that! The new Iso-Zero whey protein arrived at my doorstep last week. It has NO sugar and NO fat...and it tastes amazing. Ya'll gotta try it, for real! An exercise I've been

Playing Around In The Gym + Next Workouts

Sometimes I like to pretend I'm still a  CrossFitter. ;) But do not be deceived, because I am not. At ALL....BUT I do still incorporate skills I learned from CrossFit into my workouts because I pride myself on being a well-rounded athlete. I like challenging myself and knowing that I can do cool stuff with my bodyweight in addition to lifting heavy weights. I was just playing around the other day at my husband's gym and got 5 muscle ups in a row for the first time! They may not be up to CrossFit standard, but I'm not a CrossFitter, so I who cares! ;) Then I did some legless rope climbs, which I used to think were super hard back when I first tried them, and they were really easy this time! And I don't even ever do them-all the pullups and L-sits help I guess! The thing for me is I don't want to limit myself by just training one way. I don't want to be all show and no "go". I don't want to just be strong but not fast, or just look good but not

Beautiful Weekend!

We had one of the most beautiful weekends we've had in a long time here in KY! Perfect for the 3 day holiday weekend-clear blue skies, lots of sunshine, and low humidity. Perfect for floating in the pool and cruising in the Jeep, but cool enough to actually be enjoyable!   I enjoyed lots of yummy food this weekend. Burgers on the 4th and then ice cream later after dinner, some chips and queso and then a huge yummy meal from Cheddar's Saturday, and then steak and salad last night.   And...I enjoyed all of it guilt free and am not any "fatter" today! Just made sure I got my regular workouts in and stayed on track with all my other meals. There is more to life than worrying about your precious abs and/or tracking and weighing every single gram of food you consume....but hey, whatever makes you happy. And cheeseburgers make me happy. :) 4th of July meal Hammock night! Asher is not a fan of the fireworks, so he kept trying to get up in the hammock with u

Should I Compete?

I've been thinking lately about the possibility of competing... in a powerlifting competition, that is!   I have people always telling me to do a figure competition, but.... that is just not my thing. The unhealthy obsession with outer appearance, getting extremely lean, and having my world revolving around macros and Tupperware-thanks, but no thanks. But I am very competitive, even if it's just with myself, and I've always thought it would be fun to do a powerlifting competition one day! The other day I just got to thinking about it and was like, 'what am I waiting for? What better time than now ?' So I am seriously considering doing one later this year...I just don't know where to even start-how to pick a coach, how to pick a competition? I guess hiring a coach to program my workouts and assess my lifts would be the first thing, and then maybe they can help me pick a meet. But... I am afraid that I'll chicken out and end up not going through

Lift to GROW

"Don’t lift weights to burn calories, lose fat, or shrink. Lift weights to grow. Because focusing on building muscle will take care of all the “burning” you need. You’ll feel a lot better, and ironically, become leaner as a result." -Dani Shugart
